What is an apostille?

An apostille is an official certification that confirms the authenticity of the signature and the authority of the issuer of your document. It guarantees that your document will be accepted abroad.

Apostilles are valid in all countries that have signed the Hague Apostille Treaty, which is why they are also called “Hague Apostilles”. In the Netherlands, apostilles on translations are issued by the local court and have to be requested by a certified translator. We can request the apostille for you from the relevant authority.

What is a legalization?

A legalization is a type of authentication. A legalization ensures that a document can be used for official purposes in a different country.

If this country has not signed the Apostille Treaty, the signature of the sworn translator first has to be confirmed by the district Court. This Court legalization then has to be legalized again by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then by the embassy or consulate of the destination country. The consular official confirms the authenticity of the signature and the authority or capacity of the issuer of the document.
